What is Accelerated Reader?

Accelerated Reader is a computerized motivational reading program designed to encourage students to read books from a variety of interests. Students in grades 2 - 5 have a quarterly goal to achieve based on his/her ability. The goals are reachable, but challenging. As goals are met each marking period, students will be recognized and/or rewarded. Students choose their own books and read at their own pace. They keep records of all books read, and teacher use these "logs" to monitor progress and to determine independent reading grades. The Program’s reports give teachers and students immediate feedback about individual reading progress and provide reinforcement in a way that is both motivational and fun.
