Art
Club
The Art Club's mission is
to give students with a genuine and natural desire for the arts an
opportunity to develop sophisticated skills in art production and
manipulation of art media while contributing to school spirit and their
community.
This year,
the students will be exposed to advanced materials and techniques
as they explore the concept of their personal “Self”. To
accomplish this, they will explore three-dimensional art media, using a
variety of expressive and technical approaches, while incorporating ideas
from their own personal experiences.
The club is
for 5th grade students and we will be meeting on Mondays from 10:25 -
11:05, during their scheduled P.E. time. I look forward to working
with your creative students.
Chorus
SINGING PANTHER CHORUS: PMES offers a chorus program to interested fifth grade students. Chorus meets once a week, on Tuesdays, from 10:35 AM – 11:20 AM. Our chorus performs holiday and spring concerts, and sometimes for community events.
Drama Club
The PMES Drama Club lead by parent volunteer,
Tammie Soccio, meets once a week after school. Mrs. Soccio is a former elementary school
teacher, and a “sometimes” actress. Last year the Drama Club put on two
productions; Peter Pan, and Fractured Fairy Tales. Both were great! Club members get to audition for the parts
they want, and everyone works hard to produce a great show. This year’s
production is still a mystery and Mrs. Soccio isn’t giving any clues
yet! So check back soon to get the scoop!
Garden Club
Recent remodeling has resulted in a
beautiful school, but the landscaping is getting some help from our Garden
Club. The club meets twice a month
after school and the students take to the outdoors with trowels, bedding
plants, and watering cans to brighten up their schoolyard. Under the supervision of Virginia Beach
Master Gardener, Lorraine Eaton, they plant annual, perennials and trees. The
students are gaining an appreciation for gardening and the environment in
this PTA sponsored club.
Strings
Pembroke
Meadows
Elementary School
has
started beginning 5th grade string orchestra instruction. Orchestra classes will meet from 10:35
to 11:20 AM on Tuesday and Thursday and will be free of charge. Instruction
is offered on violin, viola, and cello. Continuing instruction is available
to students through the 12th grade in Virginia Beach Public
Schools middle and high school programs.
Learning to play a stringed instrument and belonging to the school
orchestra opens up a whole new world of friendship and fun. The opportunities
for playing a stringed instrument after high school and in college are
abundant and many universities offer scholarships for string players.Orchestra
provides a great foundation for students in all aspects of life. In addition
to music, students learn self-discipline, responsibility, group cooperation,
problem solving, goal setting, self-expression, memory skills, concentration,
poise, high self-esteem, and the importance of teamwork. Like all of the arts, music has a profound
effect on the academic success of the students who are involved in an
instrumental music class.
