The art program at Pembroke Meadows Elementary will assist the students to appreciate the significance of art and visual culture in their world, as well as how to express their ideas and feelings through meaningful art projects. Each lesson is organized around a “main concept” such as Nature or Identity. The students will examine and respond to artworks from around the world and throughout history as they investigate these concepts and create their own works of art.

The Elementary Art Program incorporates the National Standards for Arts Education, the Virginia Standards of Learning for Art, and supports specific core Standards of Learning. The program of instruction also incorporates aesthetics, art criticism, art history, and art production. It provides opportunities to cultivate creativity, individual growth, personal awareness and a value for human experiences.
